Piedmont Triad Chapter Outreach
| Print |  E-mail

The work of the Piedmont Triad Chapter of the JDRF extends beyond fundraising. We're here to support families affected by diabetes, and to advocate on their behalf. Outreach can take many forms, from Bags of Hope for the newly diagnosed, to lobbying our legislators, to organizing events that provide diabetics and their families and friends with information and resources that they need, to connecting people in our community.

To help you stay abreast of Chapter outreach we publish the monthly email newsletter Family Chatter. Subscribe, and stay connected

Do You Know Someone Who Needs a Bag of Hope?

bag of hopeThe Bag of Hope program is designed to reach children and their families who are newly diagnosed with Type 1, juvenile diabetes. The Bag is aimed at providing a comprehensive collection of educational and comforting materials about living with juvenile diabetes as early after the diagnosis as possible. The effort is intended to introduce the family of the newly diagnosed child to the resources and support available.

The Bag contains tools to help parents maintain the optimum healthy lifestyle until a cure can be found. It includes a glucometer, videos, books, meal planners and Rufus the Bear with diabetes.

The Bag of Hope is delivered by a parent of a child with juvenile diabetes in an effort to establish a partnering or support system for the newly diagnosed child and their family. A network of families has been established to assist in the distribution of the Bags.

For more information on how to obtain a Bag of Hope for a newly diagnosed child, please contact the JDRF office at 336-768-1027.
